Day Six: Thinking Outside the Box

As child I always promised myself I would not get caught up in the “norms” of the world.  I was going to stay fun and creative.  I would also NEVER have that marriage I saw on TV.  You know the ones with man in his office ALL day while the wife is cleaning and cooking ALL day…  What enjoyment could one POSSIBLY get out of that?!?!?

Anywho.  I believe I am still a bit creative; especially after I get an idea going…  Then, there is no stopping me.

Take my first child’s first birthday for example.  A Luau.

Fifty-ish people.  (Granted we did share the day with a friend.)

Decorations and party gifts galore.   We even had a beach scene wall to take family pictures in front of!!

Food.  The Food.  More than an army would need.

BUT!  I had a VISION!!  It had to look the way it did in my head.  And it did!  Does Derek remember?  No!  (lol)  But we have lots of nice pictures!!

The parties have calmed down a bit over the years.  Now, I often have a hard time figuring out what to do until the last minute.  :-/

Maybe I am loosing my “thinking outside the box” ability!??!??!

When I think about writing I often have a hard time thinking of original stories.  That’s probably why most of my stuff is real life.  I LOVE FICTION.  I am just not, currently, great at the brainstorming part.  The “norms” of the world have sucked me in!!!  All the stories I like in my head are stemming from stories  I have read!  Who wants to read a spin of a story already done??!!!?  NOT ME!

(Click for another great article on thinking outside the box.)

We definitely need to be able to think outside the box.  It gives the stories more flavor.  It enables us to write something different and worth reading each time.

The good news is, I do believe, that with a little work and studying I can get my creative self back in action, and then, LOOK OUT WORLD!!!
